77% of Americans think the country’s moral values are on the decline. That means that 4 out of 5 Americans think things moral are degenerating in the great USA. Only three years ago, only 2 out of 3 Americans felt that morals were on the decline. That means that for 4 out of 5 of us things have gotten worse in the past three years. I wonder if they really have. What do you think?
This survey indicated that 82% of people who responded who were REPUBLICANS felt that morals were on the decline but only 72% of Democrats felt that way. That is an interesting statistic, don’t you think? Even so 3 out of 4 Democrats think morals are on the decline, in comparison to 4 out of 5 Republicans. We really do have serious moral problems no matter what Republicans or Democrats think.
This poll, the Gallup poll, found that virtually all Americans regard marriage as sacrosanct. The institution of marriage should not be compromised. Americans believe that the most immoral act of all is the ILLICIT AFFAIR. Romantic dalliances between married men and married women are totally morally unacceptable. I wonder why the other 7% think that the old affair stuff is okay, don’t you?
The Gallup poll found that 70% of Americans think the death penalty is morally acceptable. 3 out of 10 Americans think the death penalty is not morally acceptable. What do you think?
What is most interesting is that this poll found that only 51% of those surveyed thought that ABORTION was morally wrong. Most interestingly, 40% accepted Abortion in any form as not morally wrong and 9% thought that Abortion was acceptable or not “depending upon the situation”, whatever that means. If this poll is accurate, every other one of us Americans thinks Abortion is not morally wrong! What do you think?
52% of those polled by Gallup felt that homosexuality was unacceptable. 48% believed that homosexuality was acceptable, and not morally wrong. What do you think?
2 out of 3 found divorce perfectly acceptable. Is it, in your view?
58% or 3 out of 5 felt there was nothing morally wrong with sex between unmarried men and woman. 54% or more than 1 out of 2 felt is was not morally wrong to bare children out of wedlock. What do you think?
92% disapproved of polygamy.
87% said human cloning was dead wrong.
82% of those polled felt suicide was morally wrong. Yet 50% felt that doctor assisted suicide was acceptable. What do you think?
2 out of 3 felt there was nothing morally wrong with gambling, medial testing on animals and the use of animals fur in clothing. What do you think?
Most interestingly, 6 out of 10 felt the use of stem cells for biological testing derived from human embryos was acceptable. Embryos as opposed to other stem cell sources. What do you think?
Fascinating, is it not, how we form our own opinions about MORALS whether or not those opinions and beliefs are consistent. It is interesting how 7 out of 10 people can favor the death penalty but only 1 out of 2 think that Abortion death is morally wrong. The same mentality favors divorce but thinks an illicit affair is wrong. Is that consistent? That same mentality thinks that sex between unmarried men and woman is okay and having a baby outside of marriage is also okay. Is that consistent?
I suppose that means we are a nation IN MORAL FLUX. 50 years ago, Americans would have been virtually unanimous in condemning divorce, gambling, medical research using stem cells from human embryos, sex between unmarried men and woman, having a baby outside of marriage, doctor assisted suicide, homosexual relations, cloning animals, cloning humans, polygamy, married men and women having an affair-any and all of that would have been considered morally reprehensible. But not today for many or most. The impact of these opinions and beliefs on society is enormous and the consequences dire. They are indeed the critical issues of the day.
